Andia Mavromati

Short Bio

Ms Mavromati is a PhD candidate of Linguistics at the University of Cyprus. She received her Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Cyprus. She proceeded with a second Bachelor’s Degree in Turkish and Middle Eastern studies, with a major in History and Politics and a Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics. She currently works as an English teacher at the Ministry of Education and Culture and is also an accredited examiner for official English examinations. She is the Vice President of the University of Cyprus Alumni Association and has been the first President of the Association of newly appointed teachers of Cyprus. She is a founding member of Larnaca 2040 and Larnaca Café Scientifique. She was a Member of the Educational Council of European Youth Parliament representing Cyprus for two years. She is a TEDx speaker and a science communicator, giving lectures and workshops for children and young adults on issues related to science communication. Her research interests revolve around the areas of Sociolinguistics with focus on bilingualism and bidialectalism, language policy and language contact, especially between Cypriot Greek and Cypriot Turkish. Lately, she is actively involved in projects that have to do with empowering young women and enabling them to participate in politics.
