On 13 December 2022, another Policy Meeting by the Institute of Studies for Politics and Democracy was held with great success. The main theme concentrated on "The need for checks and balances in a modern democracy: Lessons from abroad and the case of Cyprus".
The main speakers during the Meeting included Dr. Nikitas Hatzimihail, Professor of Law at the University of Cyprus, Dr. Costas Paraskeva, Associate Professor at the University of Cyprus, and Dr. Constantinos Tsimaras, Professor at the European University of Cyprus. The discussion was coordinated by Ms. Xenia Konstantinou, Member of the Board of Directors of the Institute.
The Policy Meeting was greeted by the President of the Parliamentary Committee on Institutions of the Cyprus House of Representatives, Mr. Dimitris Dimitriou, as well as by the President of the Institute, Dr. Christoforos Fokaides. Technocrats from the House of Representatives, public service executives, as well as various other ISPD associates, academics and experts were also present.
The aim of Policy Meetings is to promote an informed and free dialogue, which can contribute to the formulation of policy, based on rationality and scientific documentation. Similar Meetings are used by the Institute to prepare relevant policy texts.
The Policy Meeting was held at the Omega Conference Room at the European University of Cyprus.
