Election Information
General Information
On October 6, 2024, presidential elections were held in Tunisia. These were the first presidential elections after the adoption of the new Constitution of 2022. The results are as follows:
Election Results:
Kais Saied/Independent: 2,438,954 votes (90.69%)
Ayachi Zammel/Azimoun: 197,551 votes (7.35%)
Zouhair Magzhaoui/People's Movement: 52,903 votes (1.97%)
Electoral System:
The President is elected by direct universal suffrage for a five-year term. A two-round majority system is applied: If no candidate obtains an absolute majority in the first round, a second round is held between the top two candidates. The new Constitution of 2022 strengthened the President's powers, limiting the role of Parliament and the Judiciary. The Independent High Electoral Authority (ISIE) organized the elections, but its independence was questioned as it excluded 14 out of 17 candidates.
