Electoral System:
The Parliament of Sri Lanka consists of 225 members elected for a five-year term. 196 seats are filled through 22 multi-member constituencies using an open-list proportional representation system with a 5% electoral threshold. Voters choose a party and may indicate up to 3 preferred candidates from the party list. The party receiving the most votes in each constituency is awarded a bonus seat.
The remaining 29 seats come from the National List, allocated proportionally based on each party's total nationwide vote share. National List candidates are nominated by the party secretaries and do not need to contest constituency elections.
This mixed system aims to balance local representation with national proportionality.
