Election Information
General Information:
Elections were held on November 17, 2024, following the early dissolution of Senegal’s National Assembly by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on September 12. The dissolution was triggered by the inability to cooperate with the opposition-led majority and aimed at securing a strong mandate for government reforms.
Election Results:
PASTEF: 130 seats, 1,991,770 votes (54.97%)
Takku Wallu Sénégal: 16 seats, 531,466 votes (14.67%)
Jàmm ak Njariñ: 7 seats, 330,865 votes (9.13%)
Sàmm Sa Kàddu: 3 seats, 222,060 votes (6.13%)
Andu Nawlé: 2 seats, 47,636 votes (1.31%)
Farlu: 1 seat, 28,303 votes (0.78%)
The Nationalists: 1 seat, 26,876 votes (0.74%)
Kiraay ak Natangue: 1 seat, 26,775 votes (0.74%)
Sénégaal Kese: 1 seat, 25,822 votes (0.71%)
Sopi Senegal: 1 seat, 22,991 votes (0.63%)
And Ci Koolutè: 1 seat, 21,391 votes (0.59%)
And Beesal Sénégal: 1 seat, 20,765 votes (0.57%)
Electoral System:
The National Assembly of Senegal has 165 members elected through a mixed electoral system. 112 seats are elected in 46 domestic and 8 diaspora constituencies using a first-past-the-post or party block voting system in multi-member districts.
The remaining 53 seats are filled via a nationwide constituency using proportional representation. Seat allocation begins with a simple electoral quota, with the remaining seats distributed using the largest remainder method.
This system allows parties with broad national support to gain representation even if they do not dominate locally.
