Bio

Dr. Petros Lois is a Professor at the School of Business at the University of Nicosia. Among his academic qualifications, Prof. Lois holds a PhD and an MSc in Accounting, as well as the professional title of Certified Management Accountant from the Institute of Management Accountants Australia (ICMA). He is also a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA, The Association of Accountants and Financial Professionals in Business), the Institute of Marine Engineers, Science and Technology (IMarEST), and a Certified Global Business Analyst (CGBA) of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA). Currently, Prof. Lois is the Head of the Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance at the University of Nicosia and the Director of the Inter-University (Joint) Master's Program in Banking, Accounting, and Finance in collaboration with the Hellenic Open University. He has extensive teaching and research experience. He teaches courses in Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, and Financial Management at both undergraduate (Accounting, Business Administration) and postgraduate levels (MBA, Master’s in Banking, Accounting, and Finance). Additionally, he supervises master's and doctoral dissertations and serves as a member of doctoral examination committees at the University of Nicosia and other universities abroad. He is the co-founder and co-editor of the academic journal EuroMed Journal of Business (published by Emerald) and the author and editor of eight books. He has published over 50 academic articles on topics such as accounting, auditing, market analysis, financial analysis of publicly traded companies, taxation, economic crisis, money laundering, and financial technology in reputable scientific journals. Prof. Lois is the scientific coordinator and a member of the examination committee for the recruitment examinations of secondary education teachers in Cyprus, a role he has held since 2017. Furthermore, he serves as a scientific advisor to the committee responsible for developing and authoring the Accounting textbooks for Lyceum A’, B’, and C’ classes, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth. He is also a certified trainer for the Powersoft365 accounting software. He has served as a judge for the annual Cyprus Accounting Awards and Cyprus Tourism Awards. From 2014 to 2019, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Ports Authority. Before his extensive academic career, Prof. Lois worked in the fields of investment and stock market services, as well as in the shipping industry.
