Election Information
General Information:
Parliamentary elections were held in Norway on 8 September 2025 for all 169 seats in the Storting (Norwegian parliament), for the 2025–2029 term. Advance voting took place from 11 August to 5 September. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre’s Labour Party secured the most seats, while the right-wing Progress Party achieved a historic high and became the main opposition. Støre continues as prime minister, leading a minority government backed by the red-green bloc, and the elections saw the highest turnout since 1989.
Election Results:
Labour Party (Ap, Jonas Gahr Støre): 28%, 53 seats in the Storting
Progress Party (FrP, Sylvi Listhaug): 23.9%, 48 seats
Conservative Party (H, Erna Solberg): 14.6%, significant drop
Red-Green Bloc: 88 seats (Labour, Socialist Left, Centre, Red, Green parties)
Christian Democrats & Greens: Surpassed the 4% threshold, entered parliament
Liberal Party: Fell to 3.7%, below leveling seat threshold
Invalid/Blank Votes: ~6% (estimated)
Description of the Electoral System:
The 169 members of the Storting are elected using party-list proportional representation in 19 multi-member constituencies. Seats are distributed based on population and geographical area. A total of 150 seats are direct constituency seats, while 19 leveling seats go to parties exceeding the 4% national threshold. All Norwegian citizens aged 18 and above are eligible to vote.
