Bio
Maria Athanasiou is the founding partner of M. Athanasiou & Associates LLC and MASO Strategic Consultancy. She is a Lecturer in Law, specializing in Maritime Law and the Law of the Sea, in which she is pursuing her PhD. Her latest publication appeared in The Handbook of Research on the Future of the Maritime Industry.
Maria is also certified in several fields, including International Water Law from the University of Geneva; Environmental Law and Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Research Methodology from the University of London; and ECOPORTIL, which includes certifications in air quality, energy efficiency and climate change, water quality with a focus on oil pollution and sustainable water management (BWM), waste management on ships and ports, ecological mapping of environmental conditions in ports, environmental management systems (ISO, EMAS, PERS), and legislation governing environmental protection in port areas.
She also contributes to various reports concerning energy security within the framework of international law.
