Presidential elections were scheduled to be held in Madagascar on November 9, 2023, with a run-off on December 20 if no candidate was elected with a 50% majority. Due to pre-election unrest, it was announced that the elections would be postponed to November 16.
About the electoral system
In Madagascar, presidential elections are held every five years, with a limit of two terms for each elected president. The president is elected with a two-round system, if a candidate gets more than 50% of the total votes, they are elected if not, a run-of will elect the candidate with the most votes.
