Bio
Dr. Pavlos I. Koktsidis is an Associate Professor of International Relations and Security, a the Department of Political Science and International Relations in the American College of Thessaloniki. [BA in Politics and International Relations, University of Lancaster, 1999-2002; MA in Comparative Ethnic Conflict, Queen's University of Belfast, 2002-2003; PhD on Security and Conflict Analysis in South-Eastern Europe, Queen's University of Belfast, 2006-2009]
Lectures on International Relations, Foreign Policy, Security and Conflict Resolution. He previously taught as Visiting Professor of International Relations at the University of Cyprus. He acted as project manager and researcher for the externally funded program «Rearranging the Puzzle of Security in the Eastern Mediterranean: Mapping Actors and Dynamics from a Low Geopolitical Perspective» [2020-2023] and for the joint EU EastMed Erasmus+ programme (2016-2019). He coordinated the annual Virginia Tech University-funded seminars programme on Conflict Studies in collaboration with the VT Department of Political Science [2019-2024] in Cyprus. His research focuses on ethnic conflict and security analysis in Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, negotiations and state-building, war and the development of strategic thought in international relations. His work is regularly presented at international conferences, workshops and roundtable discussions (IPSA, ECPR, PSA). His research appears in internationally acclaimed peer-reviewed journals and book chapters (Journal of Ethnopolitics, Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies, Eastern European Quarterly, Dynamics of Asymmetric Conflict, Civil Wars, Mediterranean Quarterly, Journal of Peace and Conflict Studies, Perspectives on Federalism, Journal of Ethnopolitics and Minority Issues in Europe). He is author of the books Ethnofederalism in Cyprus: Territory, Power and Security (Routledge: London), Strategic Rebellion: Ethnic Conflict in FYR Macedonia and the Balkans (Peter Lang: Oxford 2012), and editor of the book Societies in Transition: Economic, Political and Security Transformations in Contemporary Europe (Springer, Frankfurt 2015).
