Bio
Dr. Ioannis N. Grigoriadis is Associate Professor and Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of Bilkent University, Principal Researcher and Head of the Turkey Program of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP). He was born in Serres and is an honors graduate of the city's 1st High School. In 1994 he was admitted 14th to the Law School of the University from which he graduated in 1998. He served his military service for 23 months between July 1998 and June as a reserve second lieutenant. Between 2000 and 2002 he studied at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) of Columbia University in New York. In 2002 he obtained the Master of International Affairs (MIA) with a specialization in energy and maritime transport, but also with a certificate of specialization in Middle Eastern studies. Between 2002 and 2005 he did doctoral studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London with a research subject of Turkish politics and supervised by Prof. William M. Hale. In 2004 he moved to Istanbul to conduct his PhD field research and began teaching at Sabanci University. After successfully supporting his PhD thesis, he was a DAAD postdoctoral fellow and worked for six months at the German Foundation for International Affairs (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik-SWP) in Berlin. In 2006 he was elected Assistant Professor and taught at the International Relations Department of Isik University in Istanbul. In 2007 he was elected Lecturer and taught at the Department of Turkish and Modern Asian Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 2009 he was elected Assistant Professor and taught at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Bilkent University in Ankara. Since 2011 he holds the Jean Monnet Chair for the study and promotion of European Studies. In 2017 he was promoted to associate professor.
