Electoral System Description:
The Senate is the upper chamber of the Czech Parliament and is composed of 81 senators. Each senator is elected from a single-member district, ensuring representation of specific local interests and communities. Senators serve six-year terms, but the Senate is not renewed all at once. Every two years, elections are held for one-third of the seats—27 senators—ensuring institutional continuity and regular renewal.
The voting system follows a two-round majority format. In the first round, a candidate is elected outright if they receive over 50% of the vote. If no candidate secures an absolute majority, a second round is held between the top two candidates, with the winner taking the seat.
