With great success was held the conference on the topic “Excessive Powers and Institutional Checks and Balances in the Republic of Cyprus: The Challenge of Reform”, which was organised by the Institute of Studies for Politics and Democracy, in collaboration with UCLan Cyprus University and with the support of the Larnaca and Famagusta Bar Associations. The event took place at the Stegi of Letters and Arts in Larnaca, on Wednesday, 12 November 2025.
The evening seminar was held as part of the Institute’s campaign to decentralise the actions it undertakes beyond Nicosia.
The event was held under the auspices of the President of the House of Representatives and of DISY, Mrs. Annita Demetriou, who delivered a greeting. Greetings were also addressed by Dr. Christoforos Fokaides, President of the Institute of Political and Democracy Studies (IPDS), former Minister of Defence, Prof. Stefani Lolle Siailou, Dean of the School of Law, UCLan Cyprus University, Mr. Dimitris Kallenos, President of the Larnaca Bar Association, Mr. Christos Karas, President of the Famagusta Bar Association, as well as Mr. Andreas Vyras, Mayor of Larnaca.
Speakers at the evening seminar were Dr. Andreas Markou, Mr. Iosif Frangos, Dr. Costas Paraskeva, Dr. Nevi Agapiou and Prof. Nikitas Hatzimichael. The discussion was moderated by Mrs. Eleni Meleagrou.
