General Information


General elections were held in Rwanda on July 15, 2024. The results are as follows:

Presidential elections
Paul Kagame: 8,822,794 votes, 99.18%
Frank Habineza: 44,479 votes, 0.50%

Parliamentary Elections
RPF coalition: 68.83%, 37 seats
PL: 8.66%, 5 seats PSD: 8.62%, 5 seats
PDI:4.61%, 2 seats
Democratic Green:4.56%, 2 seats
PS-Imberakuri:4.51%, 2 seats

Electoral system:

Rwanda's president is elected in a round of majority voting. The 80-seat Parliament is elected in two ways:

53 seats are directly elected by closed list proportional representation in a single national constituency, with an electoral threshold of 5%. Seats are allocated using the largest balance method.

27 seats are indirectly elected by local and national councils:

24 are for women: six from the Eastern, Southern and Western provinces, four from the Northern Province, and two from Kigali.
Two for youth representatives.
One for representatives of disabled people.
