The election was widely seen as a referendum on President Javier Milei's radical free-market economic policies and a crucial test of his ability to advance reforms through Congress.

The elections renew half of the Chamber of Deputies (for a four-year term) and one-third of the Senate on staggered cycles.
Seats are allocated using the D'Hondt method.
The electoral threshold for congressional representation is 3% of the district vote.
These were the first national elections since 2011 held without the Open, Mandatory and Simultaneous Primaries (PASO) system, which was suspended for this election.
Voting is compulsory for all citizens aged 18 to 70.
