Lieutenant General (ret.) Andreas Pentaras graduated from the Evelpidon Military School in 1974 with the rank of Infantry Second Lieutenant and joined the Greek Army, in which he served until 1995. At the invitation of the Republic of Cyprus, he resigned from the Greek Army and was appointed to the National Guard of Cyprus, in which he served until 2012, where he retired with the rank of Lieutenant General. Apart from the Evelpidon Military School, Lt. General Pentaras attended all the prescribed Infrantry schools, including the Higher War School, the National Defence School, the Military School of Foreign Languages ,and several other military schools and courses. During his service, he served in Units, Groups, Formations and Military Staff HQs, both in Greece and in Cyprus. In March 2013, he was appointed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus as Chief of the Cyprus Intelligence Service, a position he held until July 2015. He authored hundreds of articles on defence, security, and strategy which were published in Cyprus, Greece and abroad. In 2012 he published the book "Wrong Choices in the Defence and Security of Cyprus".
