A2: Comparison of results of political groups of European elections 2019-2024

A3: Long-term trend of electoral percentages of political groups E.K. 2004-2024

The centre-right ideological-political trend is represented in the European Parliament by the European People's Party (EPP). The EPP was founded in 1976, and its current president is Manfred Weber. The total percentages of the EPP, during the last 20 years, seem to show a negative trend, which, however, shows signs of stabilization or even recovery after the last European elections.
The centre-left ideological-political trend is represented by the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D). It received its current name, "Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats," on June 23, 2009. The president of the group today was Irace Garcia Pereth. As can be seen in the relevant graph, the percentages of this group during the last 20 years are in a downward trend.
The liberal ideological-political trend is currently represented in the European Parliament by the Renew Europe group, which consists of liberal and progressive parties. Renew Europe was known as the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) before it changed its name. The renaming to Renew Europe took place in June 2019, and its president is currently Haier Valery. The table above shows that, despite the increase in the percentages obtained in 2019, a partial decrease is observed in the last electoral process of 2024.
The far-right ideological-political trend was represented in the last European Parliament elections by two main groups: the Identity and Democracy (ID) group and the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group. The ID group was founded in 2019 and its president was Marco Zanni, while the ECR was founded in 2009 and its president was Giorgia Meloni. If the percentages of these two groups are seen cumulatively, they show the biggest increase in recent years. On the far right, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party can also be included. After the last European elections, a new initiative is underway to create a new political group, initiated by Orban (Patriots for Europe), which is why reshuffles within the existing political groups are expected.
The green ideological-political trend is represented in the European Parliament by the group Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA). The group is co-chaired by Philip Lamberts and Terri Reidtke. The Greens group, founded in 1999, presented in the last European elections a reduction in percentages, as shown in the table above.
The left-wing ideological-political trend is represented in the European Parliament by the group "Left in the European Parliament—Northern Green Left (GUE/NGL)". It was founded in 1989 and is chaired by Martin Sirdevan and Manon Aubry. It is the smallest group in the European Parliament.
The table above shows the elected MEPs who do not belong to a political group in the European Parliament. The "Others" category presents the newly elected MEPs who have not joined a political group at the moment.

Note: In the analysis of the participation / abstention of the electoral body of Cyprus, the participation of the Turkish Cypriots must be taken into account. By Law of 2014, Turkish Cypriots who hold an identity card issued by the Republic of Cyprus are automatically registered in special electoral rolls. With the provisions of the above law, in 2014 59,000 Turkish Cypriots automatically gained the right to vote, of which only 2,150 voted. In 2019, 82,925 Turkish Cypriots had the right to vote, of which only 5,804 went to the polls. In the 2024 European elections, Turkish Cypriots registered in the special electoral rolls are 103,281 and only 5,676 exercised their right
