Election Information

General Information:
The general elections in Ecuador were held on February 9, 2025. The results are as follows:

Election Results:
National Democratic Action (ADN): Daniel Noboa: 45.39% of the votes
Citizen Revolution (RC): Luisa González: 43.26% of the votes
Other candidates received lower percentages, leading to a runoff between Noboa and González, as no one managed to secure a majority.

Electoral System:
These elections saw the selection of the President and Vice President, as well as members of the National Assembly and representatives to the Andean Parliament. The electoral system in Ecuador uses a mixed system of proportional representation with closed lists. This system is used to elect members of the National Assembly with several elements:
• Fifteen members are elected in a national electoral district.
• Six are chosen by Ecuadorians living abroad.
• The rest are elected from multi-member electoral districts within the country.

Voters have a significant impact on the composition of the National Assembly through their votes, which also affect the legislative capabilities of the winning party or coalition. This system ensures representation of various geographical and social groups in Ecuador, with gender quotas in place to maintain gender balance.

The results from these elections set the stage for a second round of voting, as the initial results did not provide a majority for the presidential candidates. The focus now shifts to winning over undecided voters and those who supported other candidates in the first round.
