Bio

Gabriel Charitos is a Senior Analyst at the Institute for Policy Studies and Democracy, as well as a researcher at the Ben-Gurion Research Institute and the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) in Greece. He teaches the History of Political Relations between Greece, Israel, and Cyprus at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (Israel Studies Program) as an Adjunct Lecturer and as a Visiting Professor at Panteion University (Department of International, European, and Regional Studies) and the University of Nicosia (Law Department). He holds a law degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and obtained his postgraduate degree in "Economic, Political, and International Relations in the Mediterranean" from the Department of Mediterranean Studies at the University of the Aegean. He was awarded a PhD in International Relations from the Department of International and European Studies at the University of Macedonia, with a dissertation on Israeli foreign policy regarding the Cypriot dispute during the 1950s. He has published articles in international scientific journals and has two monographs published in Greek: "The Democratization of Arab States as a Priority of American Foreign Policy in the Middle East – The Case of Jordan and Tunisia" (co-published by the Elias Krispis Foundation of International Legal Studies and Dr. Anastasia Samara-Krispi, and the Legal Publications N. Sakkoulas, Athens, 2008) and "Cyprus, the Neighboring Island – The Cyprus Issue through the State Archives of Israel, 1946-1960" (Papazisis Editions, Athens, 2018 and 2020, 2nd edition). His research interests focus on the foreign policy of Middle Eastern states, specializing in the history of Israeli diplomacy and the development of the Israeli political system, Arab-Israeli relations, the implementation of the "Abraham Accords", Israel-Iran relations, and regional cooperation between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel. He is a contributor to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) on Near and Middle Eastern affairs and maintains a frequent presence in the media in Greece, Cyprus, and Israel. He is fluent in Hebrew, English, and French.
